The injury is believed to be medial knee ligament in nature which has him undergoing, an MRI on Friday. Should it prove to be the case it could keep Leftwich out for the season.

This opens the door for Dennis Dixon, who has started only one NFL game, to show what he is made of next weekend. Roethlisberger is suspended for the first six weeks of the season, but is trying to have that reduced to four.

Against Carolina Dixon threw a touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders in a 19-3 win for the Steelers.
